INPEX Presence in Malaysia

INPEX has established a significant presence in Malaysia through its involvement in exploration and production projects across offshore Sabah and Sarawak.

1959 - 1978

Sabah Teiseki Oil conducted exploration activies in East Sabah and drilled 9 exploration wellls.

2003

Entered into an exploration and production project as a 15% shareholder with JX Nippon (Malaysia), involving SK8 and SK10.

2012

Blocks S and R were awarded in offshore Sabah, with INPEX serving as the operator for Block S.

2023

INPEX acquired two exploration blocks through MBR 2022: Block 4E (Operator) and Block SK418.

2024

INPEX acquires interest in Block 2A through company acquisition and changes company name to INPEX Malaysia E&P 2A Limited

2025

INPEX’s portfolio in Malaysia has expanded to six exploration blocks with the award of SB306A (Operator) and SB306B via MBR 2024, located offshore Sabah.

INPEX Malaysia: Current Portfolio of Exploration Blocks

Block 4E, SK418, SK 510, 2A, SB306A & SB306B

INPEX has expanded its exploration presence in Malaysia with six awarded blocks through Malaysia Bid Rounds 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as an acquisition in 2025. These include Blocks 4E, SK418, SK510, SB306A, SB306B, and a 42.5% interest in Block 2A, located offshore Sarawak and Sabah. Exploration activities are currently ongoing across all blocks.
